Maker started his US basketball journey in 2015 at Chaminade College Prep School in LA, where he lived away from family. As a freshman, he played well, averaging 9.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. He transferred to The Tech Academy in Ontario in 2016, guided by coach Ed Smith, where he played with his cousins and participated in National Preparatory Association and The Grind Session.
The Tech Academy closed the following year and he was homeschooled but suffered a foot injury that kept him out for the 2017-2018 season. He later transferred to Orange Lutheran High School in California, where he earned All-Trinity League and All-County honors as a junior.
However, due to eligibility concerns, he moved to Pacific Academy in Irvine and played for Center of International Basketball Academy. Maker declared for the 2020 NBA draft in April 2020, but withdrew in August to play college basketball.
Maker was a highly-rated center in the 2020 recruiting class and committed to play college basketball at Howard over offers from UCLA, Kentucky, and Memphis. He became the highest-ranked recruit to choose an HBCU. He was later ruled out indefinitely due to injury and signed with the Sydney Kings of the NBL as part of their Next Stars program.
Maker went undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft but joined the Chicago Bulls for the Summer League and signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Washington Wizards before being waived. He was later named to the roster for the Capital City Go-Go.
In 2019, Maker stated his intention to play for Australia internationally and attempted to make the team for the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, but was not selected for the final squad.
