Ellison started playing basketball in his high school days at Life Center Academy. In a match against Orangeville Prep, he scored a massive 28 points and helped his team to win the match. At the end of his senior year, he averaged 20 points with 7 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He received various offers from different colleges but he joined St. John’s by rejecting other offers.
