Manchester City Opinion: Why Pep Guardiola should go all out for Nabil Fekir
According to the Express, Manchester City have joined Premier League rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Lyon star Nabil Fekir.
The Frenchman, 25, was on the verge of a switch to Liverpool last summer, only for the Reds to pull the plug after his medical showed up problems. Jurgen Klopp is still interested in Fekir, who wants to leave his hometown club this summer, claim the Express.
Although the 25-year-old attacker’s productivity reduced for Lyon this past season, he still performed well and has caught the attention of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Fekir, who has just a year remaining on his contract, scored 12 goals and supplied nine assists in the 2018/19 campaign and could be a valuable addition for City.
The Sun reports that David Silva could have played his last game for Manchester City after being tempted by a £12m offer from a Qatari club. The Spaniard has been at the Etihad since 2010, becoming a fan favourite at the club. His role in bringing City at the top of English football since the last few years is massive, to say the least.
Silva, 33, has a contract until the summer of 2020 and with age starting to catch up, he is likely to leave the Premier League champions this summer. Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan is stalling over a new contract and Fernandinho needing replacing now. So, Guardiola’s one of the important tasks this summer will be to address the issues in midfield.
Signing Fekir would go a long way in helping City bolster their midfield options. The 25-year-old is one of the sought-after names in French football and perhaps is at the perfect age for the next big move of his career. He is a highly versatile player, adept at playing anywhere across midfield and attack.
Fekir’s ability on and off the ball, work-ethic and eye for goal make him such an exciting player. He is a supremely creative player, whose qualities are perfectly suited to the Premier League. With 12 goals and nine assists for Lyon this past season, the French international has shown that he is a very dangerous player in the attacking third of the pitch.

Add those to his set-piece prowess and City would have a brilliant player in their ranks in the form of Fekir.
Verdict
Thus, City would really benefit from having Fekir in their squad, as a proper replacement for David Silva. He could prove to be a significant addition for Guardiola, who’ll look to retain the Premier League title next term.
