Man City Opinion: Citizens can strike gold with the signing of Alberto Soro

According to claims from Spanish publication El Periodico de Aragon, Man City are set to go head to head in a transfer tug of war with La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid over Real Zaragoza starlet Alberto Soro in the summer.

The same report claims that City would probably loan out Soro to their sister club Girona in the La Liga should a deal materialize in the summer.

Soro has caught the eye with his impressive displays for Segunda Division high-flyers Zaragoza, accumulating 2 goals and 2 assists from 24 appearances in the league, starting on only 9 occasions.

Reports also suggest that the 20-year-old versatile attacking midfielder signed a new four-year deal back in October, with his release clause set at £7.6 million.

Standing at 5ft.8 inches with a diminutive frame, Soro is primarily a left-footed No.10 by trade, although he is capable of playing out wide on either flank.

The youngster has earned rave reviews for his pace, flair and trickery on the ball, whilst also showing the ability to light up the scene with some creative passing. A sharp and agile creative ace who is noted for his vision, sharpness and ability to work the channels in the final third, Soro has all the makings of developing into a fine playmaker in the years to follow.

To put that into perspective, Man City could have a future star in their hands if they manage to beat off competition from Madrid and Barcelona to land the Spanish prodigy.

The Citizens snapped up Croatian starlet Ante Palaversa from Hajduk Split in January as a part of their long-term plans and Alberto Soro could be the next in line.

City’s policy of not paying over the odds in the transfer market to bring in established international stalwarts have seen them invest in young and promising talents to build a solid platform for continued success.

The club has transformed players like David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Fernandinho, Ederson and many more into world-beaters after buying them for a reasonable price and they have done well to keep hold of all their prized assets over the years.

The Citizens lost Brahim Diaz to Real Madrid in January and investing in Alberto Soro might provide them with a player in the same mould.

Agreed, Soro won’t be anywhere near City’s first team even if they strike a deal for him in the summer but the fact that he is a potential star in the making should convince the reigning Premier League champions to swoop for him.

Also, Soro has been linked with clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid, which speaks volumes of the quality that he possesses.

In all probability, City would be looking to loan him back to Zaragoza next season if they manage to secure promotion to the La Liga. If not, the Citizens can certainly arrange a loan deal for him at their sister club Girona with a view to giving him more top-level exposure.
