Manchester City have slowly but surely developed into one of Europe’s strongest teams. Despite their surprise exit from the Champions League at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur this season, Pep Guardiola’s side have managed to make their presence felt by edging out Liverpool in what an unbelievably intense title-race.
Their squad can be compared to the all of the best teams in the world and against most, they’d come out on top. With massive depth in most areas of the pitch, Guardiola has ensured over the last few years that he has all the right ingredients to create a winning project at the Etihad Stadium.
As suggested in a report by the Daily Mail, here are 3 players Manchester City are said to be targeting in the summer:
Matthijs De Ligt
The Dutch centre-half has been linked with a move to multiple top European clubs and Manchester City are still one of the leading contenders to get the Ajax star’s signature.
His rise to the apex of European football has been sudden and his services are being sought by the best of the best.
Despite his young age, De Ligt has the ability to completely take control of the box with his defensive know-how and intelligence.
He uses his physicality well and is adept and cutting out threaded passes in behind. His presence in the air is also a key feature of his play as he frequently chips in with goals as well.
Rodri
The Spanish defensive midfielder has really come into the limelight after his switch to Atletico Madrid last season. Ever since his days at the Villarreal academy, Rodri has been touted to become a massive star in La Liga and he’s certainly lived up to those lofty expectations as well.
This season, the defensive midfielder has played in 33 La Liga games for Diego Simeone’s side and he’s notched up 2 goals and an assist as well. His contributions in the middle of the park have been vital and would add some now life to this tiring Manchester City midfield.
Luka Jovic
This 21-year-old Serbian international is one of Europe’s highest-rated strikers at the moment and his performances for Eintracht Frankfurt have this season certainly backed up this claims.
Having joined on loan from Benfica in the summer, Frankfurt have secured a permanent signing for the talisman already.
