According to a report from Spanish news outlet Sport, Manchester City are one of the few European clubs interested in signing Real Madrid star, Isco.
The Spanish international, 27, has endured a poor season with Real Madrid. He was out of favour under Santiago Solari prior to his sacking and made most of his Madrid appearances from the bench. The attacker played more under Zinedine Zidane in the second half of the season; though, the French manager doesn’t see him in his future plans.
The report claims the Spanish giants are willing to cash in on Isco this summer and despite the Spaniard—who is also wanted by Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain—not playing much in the 2018/19 campaign, Madrid believe they can recoup as much as £105million for him.
That being said, Manchester City must beat the likes of Manchester United and PSG to Isco’s signature this summer.
Manchester City won the domestic treble at the weekend by thrashing Watford 6-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley. It is the biggest margin of victory in an FA Cup final for 116 years as Pep Guardiola’s side continue to scale new heights in the English game. Yet for all that domestic dominance, City finished the season without the one prize it most covets: the Champions League.
The Champions League is the only trophy that has eluded Guardiola since he left Barcelona. Failure to win it with City for the third successive season is a concern, given that Guardiola has spent plenty of money on rebuilding the squad. To make another push for the coveted silverware next season, the Spaniard should spend again in the summer transfer window.
Guardiola’s priority will be to replace his outgoing skipper Vincent Kompany, who has agreed to join Anderlecht as player-manager. His next task will be to bring in replacements for two of his most important players—David Silva and Fernandinho.
At the age of 33 and with an international career behind him, David Silva is a modern-day City legend, who is no longer the heartbeat of this team but an indispensable player Guardiola simply can’t do without. Next season will be the last under the ageing Spaniard’s current contract and even if City extend his contract for one more season, Guardiola should replace Silva with Isco.
Isco hasn’t been a guaranteed starter at Madrid ever since he joined from Malaga in the summer of 2013. He is a technically gifted player that has so much to offer and on his day, is simply unplayable. A skilful and creative no.10, the 27-year-old’s technical abilities combined with his dribbling skills and keen for a killer pass would make a smashing signing for City.

The Spanish international can play anywhere along the front-line or slightly deeper as part of a central midfield three. Guardiola plays a 4-3-3 system at City, with David Silva on the left of midfield trio. Isco will thrive in Guardiola’s system, potentially replacing the ageing Silva in the engine room and causing damage to the opposition alongside the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero.
All in all, Isco will take Guardiola’s City to another level and might help the English champions to Champions League glory, who knows?
