Why Manchester United must do everything to sign Jadon Sancho
According to the Telegraph, Manchester United are well ahead of the competition in the race to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
Jadon Sancho, 19, is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer if they receive an appropriate offer, which is expected to be over £100m. The Telegraph claims that as long as Manchester United are prepared to meet the Bundesliga club’s demands then a deal will be done, with the teenager likely to earn over £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford.
The England international has excelled in the three seasons he has spent in Germany after leaving Manchester City’s academy. The winger has netted 17 goals along with 18 assists in 33 games for the Bundesliga outfit. Sancho has scored five goals in his last seven Bundesliga games for Dortmund, including the only goal of the game against Freiburg on Saturday.
With Sancho impressing in the Bundesliga over the last couple of seasons, Manchester United must do everything possible to sign him this summer.
The Red Devils strengthened their squad in January by signing Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon and Odion Ighalo on loan until the end of the season from Shanghai Shenhua. Fernandes has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water, netting three goals and supplying two assists in his first six games.
The Portugal international’s instant impact has lifted United to fifth in the table, three points shy of fourth-placed Chelsea.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in the hunt for a top-four finish and have momentum with them. They are fighting tooth and nail to qualify for the Champions League next season in order to attract exciting, world-class talents to Old Trafford in the summer.
United have lacked creativity and goals this season and while Fernandes has given the club a lift, Solskjaer must add quality players around the Portuguese midfielder to help his side create and score goals consistently next season. That makes Sancho an ideal target for the Red Devils.
Sancho is arguably the hottest prospect in world football right now. He established himself as a starter for Dortmund after Ousmane Dembele’s departure to Barcelona and now is one of the first names on the team sheets for the club. He recorded 12 goals and 14 assists last season in the Bundesliga and has already surpassed that tally this season.

The England international is an out-and-out winger who’ll undoubtedly bolster United’s wide department and it’s evident from his numbers. Alexis Sanchez could not find his feet at Old Trafford, while Anthony Martial blows hot and cold. Daniel James has faded after a bright start to life at the club. Sancho, meanwhile, has developed into a fantastic footballer at a quick rate in Germany.
Verdict
At a tender age of 19, Sancho is already turning heads across Europe. Taking into account the sheer amount of goal contributions, his quality and massive potential, United must make the English teenager’s signing a priority this summer. All in all, he would be a quality signing for the Red Devils.
