Why Adama Traore would be a good addition for Manchester United

According to a report from French outlet Le10 Sport (h/t Birmingham Live), Manchester United have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Wolves winger Adama Traore.

Traore is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy. He made just four senior appearances for the Catalans before leaving in 2015 in search of regular first-team football. Having joined Aston Villa, the winger struggled to make much of an impact, contributing with one goal and two assists in 12 appearances.

The following summer, he joined Middlesbrough, where he spent two years during which he made 71 appearances, scoring just 5 goals. Wolves signed him in the summer of 2018 and after a poor debut campaign, has been in sensational form this term. So far, he has scored 7 goals and created 13 more in 79 appearances.

Manchester United have been on a resurgent run since the turn of the year. After having made an iffy start to the season, the Red Devils are now 5th in the Premier League. They are still alive in the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United need a right-sided winger

For them to bridge the gap on rivals Liverpool and Chelsea, new additions need to be made. The right-wing has been a problematic position for Manchester United for a number of years now. Recent seasons have seen the Red Devils utilise the likes of Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira in the position, to mixed success.

Daniel James’ arrival last summer addressed the problem to a certain extent. However, barring the Welshman and academy ace Tahith Chong, United do not have any other natural wingers in the squad. And given that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets his teams up to play on high-speed counter-attack, adding another speedy wide player this summer would be a wise decision by the club.

Adama Traore would be a fine addition to the ranks for Manchester United. After having struggled in his first few years in England, the 24-year-old is finally living to his immense potential this season. So far in 2019/20, the winger has bagged a return of 6 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, emerging as one of Wolves’ top players.

Traore has been one of the most devastating wingers in the Premier League this term, having completed the most number of take-ons (144). His tally of 7 league assists is the 7th-best in the competition.

Verdict

Traore has developed into one of the most dangerous wingers in the Premier League over the past year. His style of play would fit in perfectly at Solskjaer’s Manchester United. His signing would add more quality and depth to the wings, making their attack more dangerous. Hence, they should try and lure him to Old Trafford.
