Manchester United should go all out to sign Ante Rebic in January
According to Metro, Jose Mourinho wants either Ante Rebic or Ivan Perisic to bolster his attacking options in January.
United were linked heavily with both the Croatian attackers prior to the World Cup but Ed Woodward wasn’t ready to splash the cash to sign either of them. While Inter Milan demanded a whopping £48 million for Perisic, Eintracht Frankfurt would not accept anything less than £40million for Rebic. (h/t Mirror)
Quite understandably, the stocks of both the wingers are likely to have soared higher than ever after they played a key role in Croatia’s march to the final in the World Cup.
However, United should not be put off by the price tag of Ante Rebic as he has might be the perfect man to answer Mourinho’s prayers. As evident from their performances so far in the Premier League, United need a traditional right-winger to add impetus to their attack. The Red Devils have lacked the cutting edge in their attack this season and Mourinho’s men currently sit 8th in the standings, seven points behind leaders Manchester City.
United need a centre-back and a right-winger to get their campaign back on track and post a serious challenge for the title. With the dismal start that they have made, it might not be possible to get back in the title race but they should make it a top priority to qualify for the Champions League next year.
Ante Rebic has all the qualities to excel in the Premier League. While he might not be the most technically gifted winger, he makes up for it with his superior work-rate. He is versatile and has the ability to switch flanks at will. Blessed with incredible pace, Rebic has the ability to beat the defenders with instant acceleration. Furthermore, he has a keen eye for a cross and does not hesitate to cut inside from the flanks.
He has been in remarkable form this season as well. The 25-year-old has racked up 3 goals and an assist from four appearances in the Bundesliga and this might be the season where he takes his game to a new level.
Rebic is not the sort of player who likes to link the play with short passes. He is more of a direct footballer who tries to force his way through with pace and endeavour. To go with his pace and crossing, he is also a decent finisher, not as prolific as a No.9 but still good enough for a winger.
However, the most impressive thing about him is his willingness to track back and help out the defenders. Often, he wins the ball back inside his own half and catches the opposition out with a brisk counter-attack.

With Rebic in the team, Romelu Lukaku will have the perfect supply from the flanks, which would allow him to use his aerial ability to good effect. Also, the fact that he tracks back and contributes to the defence, allowing Antonio Valencia to bomb forward with pace.
That said, Rebic will be a cheaper and a younger buy than Ivan Perisic and United should not hesitate to splash the cash to land him in January.
