Why Man United must take a punt on Alexander Sorloth this summer
According to Turkish outlet Fotomac (h/t The Sun), Manchester United were one of the clubs to have scouted Trabzonspor striker Alexander Sorloth against Rizespor in Turkey’s Super Lig on Saturday.
Alexander Sorloth, 24, joined Crystal Palace in January 2018 for £9million from FC Midtjylland. He failed to impress at Selhurst Park, not scoring in his 16 Premier League appearances. The Eagles farmed the 24-year-old out on loan and he has since flourished on a two-year loan deal at Trabzonspor, netting 24 goals and registering 7 assists this season.
Fotomac (h/t The Sun) claims that Trabzonspor have the option to buy Sorloth for £6m in the upcoming window.
Meanwhile, Manchester United failed to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer after selling the Belgian to Inter Milan. After Lukaku’s departure, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood took up the mantle of scoring goals this term. The trio has contributed to 44 goals across all competitions with Rashford the club’s top scorer with 19 goals.
Following Rashford’s untimely injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to act in the January transfer window and he brought in a temporary replacement in the form of Odion Ighalo.
However, Ighalo isn’t the long-term solution to the Red Devils’ goalscoring problems and Solskjaer must prioritise signing a new striker before the 2020/21 season commences. Having said that, should United make a move for Alexander Sorloth?

Sorloth has managed to put his career back on track since joining Trabzonspor on loan. He has been in superb form, posting 24 goals and seven assists in all competitions so far. The 24-year-old is scoring goals left, right and centre in Turkey and while he flopped in England with Crystal Palace, Sorloth would be making a serious step up if a move to United happens.
Verdict
Going purely by his goalscoring exploits for Trabzonspor this term, United must take a punt on Sorloth. The Norwegian would be a good option to support the likes of Rashford, Martial and Bruno Fernandes in the United attack next season if he reproduces his current form. So Solskjaer should look to recruit the 24-year-old in the summer to strengthen his squad.
