According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are interested in Napoli right-back Elseid Hysaj and are set to face tough competition from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
While the Red Devils have been told to pay £45m plus bonuses for their primary target Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace, they have now turned their attention towards Albanian full-back Hysaj. Denzel Dumfries and Max Aarons are the other full-backs United have been keeping tabs on.
The 24-year-old has been at the heart of the defence for Napoli since his move from Empoli in 2016.
He has amassed a total of 282 appearances combinedly for both the clubs with three runners-up title. Hysaj rose through ranks of Albanian club Shkodra and has earned 46 international caps until now.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is currently working on squad overhaul and sorting out the defensive reinforcements turns out to be his priority, especially the right-back void.
Ashley Young, United’s first-choice, was found in low spirits through the campaign while his second choice Diego Dalot got depleted with chances. Young, 32, is clearly in the twilight of his career and Solskjaer would need someone to supersede the ex-Aston Villa man in the upcoming season.
The Red Devils can avail the services of Hysaj, whose experience would be an added advantage.
In terms of stats, the former student of Maurizio Sarri holds a pass success percentage of 86, as per Who Scored, which highlights his adeptness at providing long as well as short passes.
And his defensive stats need to be looked at, as he averages around 2 tackles and 3 interceptions per game. Hysaj can also switch his position to the left flank.

Instead of going all out for the Eagles youngster Wan-Bissaka, United can strike gold if they are able to coerce Hysaj to Old Trafford next season. The former Empoli man himself expressed his interests in facing new challenges away from Italy next season.
