Why Manchester United should go all out to sign Luka Jovic in summer
According to a report from the Metro, Chelsea and Barcelona are interested in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic.
The Serbian, 21, has had a superb Bundesliga season so far, netting 19 goals so far in 29 appearances. Luka Jovic is on loan from SL Benfica and Frankfurt are keen to make the move permanent for only £5.3m, then put a price-tag closer to £50m for his services, the report adds.
The 21-year-old has quickly become one of the most sought-after players in Europe. He has been scoring heavily in the Bundesliga throughout this campaign and is expected to play a vital role in Frankfurt’s chances of securing a UEFA Europa League place for next season.
That said, Manchester United should join the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona for the signature of Luka Jovic in summer.
Manchester United’s fortunes have changed since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the manager. Solskjaer has won all but one of his games in caretaker charge after replacing Jose Mourinho in mid-December. The Reds have only lost one of their 13 matches under Solskjaer in all competitions—winning 10—to be fourth in the Premier League and have qualified for the FA quarter-finals by beating Chelsea 2-0 on Monday.
However, this United squad needs major surgery if they are to mount a title challenge next season. Solskjaer has given complete freedom to the attackers to express themselves in the final third, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard thriving in the system. But one cannot ignore the fact that when Martial and Lingard went off injured against PSG in the Champions League, United’s flow and rhythm got completely disrupted.
Even though Solskjaer called the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku from the bench, none of them managed to make an impact as PSG won 2-0 at Old Trafford. To put things simply, United need more firepower in their attack and Solskjaer, who looks likely to become the permanent manager, should sign Jovic in summer.
Jovic is able to lead the line on his own or play as a supporting striker. Either way, he is just deadly in front of goal and would thrive in Solskjaer’s system, and with players like Rashford, Pogba and Martial around to support him, this move is bound to work out. The young Serbian’s pace, movement and finishing ability could be colossal to the Reds’ title charge next season.

Jovic’s excellent form for Frankfurt in one of the Europa’s top leagues in the Bundesliga proves that he is more than capable of scoring in the Premier League and if United can land the 21-year-old by beating the likes of Chelsea and Barcelona, he would be a statement signing ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
