The Sun and the Manchester Evening News have reported that Manchester United have re-entered the race for Real Madrid superstar Raphael Varane. A World Cup winner with France, Varane has been easily one of the Los Blancos’ best players this season, alongside Vinicius Junior and a few others. For United, the fact that he is one of the best centre-backs – is the simple reason why they are attracted.
While both Kalidou Koulibaly and Milan Skriniar are at the top of their short-list, if Varane was made available, there would be a queue of clubs lining up outside the Santiago Bernabeu to make a move. That’s how good the French centre-back is.
The 25-year-old is a personification of a great modern-day defence, who has every attribute that would make him for perfect for any side in the world, let alone Manchester United. He has the qualities and potential in several playing systems of managers and settles in that with aplomb.
There is no club in the world who wouldn’t want Varane, and while Manchester United would love getting him, the Red Devils need to move their eyes elsewhere.
There is little chance that Real Madrid would give up the centre-back who’s going to rule their back-line for the best part of next decade. Now at 25, the Frenchman is in the middle of his peak years. He will only get better from now on.
He has established himself as a mainstay in the Madrid team-sheet, making 260 appearances since his debut as an 18-year-old back in 2011. There is little chance that the Los Blancos will let the 25-year-old Frenchman leave, especially after seeing him being nominated among the top ten players for the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
While Luka Modric did eventually win the coveted individual trophy, many critics believed that Varane should have been ranked higher or even become the first defender since Fabio Cannavaro to win the trophy.

The summer window should once again see Manchester United spend heavily, but there is a slight chance that the Red Devils could bag Raphael Varane. But that’s only a slight chance, which means that a step back down into reality could be a little bit jarring, however, neither Kalidou Koulibaly nor Milan Skriniar are bad options. Hence, despite the Frenchman possessing the ability to be a perfect option for United, the possibility of him joining is mere.
