Man United Opinion: Solskjaer should move for Tielemans to replace Herrera
According to claims from Belgian source HLN, as cited by Leicester Mercury, Man United have joined the race to sign Belgian international midfielder Youri Tielemans at the end of the season.
The same report claims that Tottenham Hotspur have also expressed their interest in the promising young playmaker.
Tielemans has been a revelation in the Premier League since his loan switch to Leicester City from Monaco back in January and has been instrumental in changing the whole complexion of the Foxes midfield, contributing with a goal and 3 assists from 7 appearances in the league.
He has been a key figure behind Leicester’s recent upturn of form which has seen them string together a winning run of three games in the Premier League under Brendan Rodgers.
As reported by Leicester Mercury, the Foxes have already entered into talks with Monaco over the possibility of making his stay permanent for a club-record £40million in the summer.
Meanwhile, Man United have been dealt a huge blow to their hopes of securing a top-four finish.
Fred has clearly flopped since his big-money move to Old Trafford last summer and it is high time for United to get him off their books. Pogba has established himself as a key cog in United’s midfield under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but he has looked pedestrian in recent times as well.
While Marouane Fellaini’s void has been somewhat filled by Scott McTominay, the impending departure of the out-of-contract duo of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera in the summer has cast a lot of uncertainty over United’s midfield options.
Quite clearly, Solskjaer would need to dip into the transfer window for new options to replace the departing players. And the acquisition of Youri Tielemans could help United improve massively in the midfield.
Known for his technical abilities and tactical responsibility, Tielemans is noted for his creativity, vision and flawless passing. Primarily a central midfielder by trade, the Belgian is also effective when used further up the pitch in a No.10 role.
His good range of passing and ability to spark creativity between the lines allow him to control the tempo of the game and create chances for his teammates up front. He has a good understanding of the game and always seems to have that split second more to weigh up his passing options.
One of Tielemans’ key attributes is his ability to play defence-splitting through balls, both in the air and along the ground, making him a potent threat in the middle of the park. To add to that, he is someone who contributes a lot with his work-rate- cutting out attacks and retaining possession, whilst also pulling the strings for his team in the final third.
United would have a real gem in his hands if they manage to beat off competition from their Premier League rivals to get strike a deal for Tielemans. In fact, they can hit greater heights in the Premier League next term if Solskjaer teams up Tielemans alongside Paul Pogba in the midfield.

Tielemans, 21, has shown strong signs of excellence very early in his career and it is not difficult to see why United would actually strike gold by securing his services.
