According to reports from The Sun, Man United have been credited with an interest in Liverpool stalwart Mo Salah in the summer transfer window, with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also keeping tabs on the Egyptian’s situation at Anfield.
Salah refused to commit his future to Liverpool following the Reds 2-0 victory over Spurs in the finals of the UEFA Champions League and the 26-year-old’s comments have fuelled plenty of speculations in the transfer window, the Sun understands.
Salah’s situation has put Real Madrid on red alert, although the Los Blancos are closing in on a £115 million move for Chelsea star Eden Hazard. Bayern have also set their sights on the Egyptian in a bid to cover for the departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
The 26-year-old enjoyed another prolific season at Anfield this term and played an integral part in Liverpool’s first Champions League triumph in 14 years, whilst also being the key driving force behind the Reds title challenge in the Premier League.
Salah contributed with an eye-watering 27 goals and 13 assists in 52 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this past season and his stocks are likely to have soared sky-high following his heroics in the Champions League.
A move to Man United, however, seems highly unlikely to materialize given that both the Premier League giants haven’t been directly involved in the transfer window for over five decades, with Phil Chisnall being the last player to be transferred between the two clubs back in 1964.
To put things into perspective, Man United’s links to Mo Salah is likely to create a lot of hype and excitement amongst the fans at Old Trafford, and while this looks like an incredible move on paper for the Red Devils, the chances of it actually happening are relatively slim.
Nevertheless, it should be a no-brainer for Man United to sign the Egyptian if he is really available for sale, although they would probably need to shatter their club-record fee to get the 26-year-old on board.
A fast, sharp, agile and skilful attacker like Salah would be an instant solution to the club’s No.9 woes and it would be fair to say that he would be a tailor-made fit for Solskjaer’s easy-on-the-eye quick build-up style of football.
Romelu Lukaku has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan, although reports claim that the Red Devils would only consider selling the Belgian if the Serie A giants meet their £80 million valuation of the striker (h/t Metro).
Question marks continue to linger over the future of big-money flop Alexis Sanchez, and with United preparing for a squad overhaul this summer, it is unlikely that they would stick around with the Chilean for another season. That leaves Marcus Rashford as the sole striker in United’s squad without any problems and the Red Devils should look to add a lot more depth and firepower to their attack to challenge for the Premier League title.
Someone like Lukaku is a glaring misfit for Solskjaer’s style of play, which necessitates the presence of fast, agile and technically-gifted strikers up front. United are also short of wide players following the departure of Juan Mata on a free transfer and it is easy to see why Salah, who has the versatility to play out wide on the right and also lead the line, would solve multiple problems for the Red Devils.
Mo Salah is right up there with the very best in the world and his arrival at Old Trafford, though highly unlikely, would transform United into real title contenders next season. Noted for his natural finishing and playmaking abilities, the Egyptian is still very much in his prime and he would be a good short-term, as well as a long-term investment for the Red Devils.

That said, Man United should not hesitate to splash the cash on the Egyptian maestro this summer and his prolific record of 71 goals in 104 appearances for Liverpool should prompt the Red Devils to shatter their club-record fee to land the 26-year-old.
