Manchester United Opinion: Why Solskjaer should sign Giovani Lo Celso?
According to Spanish news outlet Marca, Manchester United are one of the European heavyweights interested in signing Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. (h/t Sky Sports)
The Argentina international, 23, was initially on loan at Betis from PSG, but the club activated a £22m clause in the deal to make the move permanently with the intention of cashing in for an even bigger fee this summer.
Giovani Lo Celso enjoyed a superb campaign in the La Liga, dictating Betis’ play and scoring nine times from midfield, earning a place in the Argentina squad for the Copa America.
His form towards the end of the campaign, though, has attracted a lot of attention, with Real Madrid and Tottenham interested to sign him. PSG are already keen to bring the midfielder back to Parc des Princes, the report adds.
That being said, Manchester United should do everything in their power to sign Lo Celso from Betis.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to rebuild his squad after a poor campaign in the Premier League. He lost eight of his final 12 matches as United’s form buckled in the last two months of the season after the manager had initially overseen a dramatic bounce in the wake of Jose Mourinho’s sacking in December.
The Norwegian tactician is expected to be backed heavily in the transfer market to start the process of revamping the United squad. As per the Telegraph, the Red Devils boss wants as many as five signings, with a right-back, a centre-half, two midfielders and a right-sided forward in his plans.
Tightening up things at the back has to be Solskjaer’s priority after United conceded over 50 goals in the 2018/19 season. He should then focus on bolstering his midfield options following Ander Herrera’s decision to leave the club on a free transfer.
Lo Celso is the kind of player that Manchester United need. The quick, skilful and energetic Argentine would provide impetus from midfield, prowling ahead and driving the Red Devils forward with his elegant playing style alongside Paul Pogba.
He could be the perfect player to complement Pogba in advanced midfield roles with Scott McTominay or Nemanja Matic in the holding role.

United would be bringing in a versatile and gifted midfielder with Lo Celso. It is the type of transfer that could make the Red Devils very strong in the midfield department. The Argentinean could be the missing link that helps Solskjaer’s side be on the front foot and dominate the opposition, whilst bringing consistency to Pogba’s game.
Verdict
United need some more attacking ammunition next year and investing in Lo Celso would be a step in the right direction.
