Manchester United Opinion: Why the Red Devils should sign Hakim Ziyech?

According to a report from the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are one of the top European clubs interested in signing Ajax star, Hakim Ziyech.

The Moroccan international, 26, has caught the eye of a number of big clubs with a string of fantastic displays for Ajax this past season. He scored 21 goals and produced 24 assists last season, as Ajax clinched a domestic double, whilst making as far as the Champions League semi-finals.

Hakim Ziyech’s form has emerged as one of the summer transfer window’s most in-demand players. The Daily Mirror reports Ajax are looking for just over £30m for Hakim Ziyech, who has also been heavily linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and AS Roma.

It’ll be difficult for Manchester United to sign Ziyech due to a lack of Champions League football next season but they must do everything possible to land the Moroccan at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have started their rebuilding process under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, following a miserable sixth-placed finish in the 2018/19 campaign. Solskjaer has made his first signing of the summer in Wales winger Daniel James, but he’ll need to add a lot more quality to his squad to compete for the title next term.

Signing a right-winger is a must for United this summer despite James capable of playing on that flank. More attacking firepower is required at Old Trafford, as Solskjaer must replace the under-performing stars like Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata. The lack of a creative presence could be felt in Solskjaer’s team in the final hurdle of games last season, and Ziyech certainly looks ideal for United.

Despite being advertised as a right-winger, Ziyech is someone who likes to cut inside and create scoring opportunities for his team. He is also good at taking on defenders, completing dribbles and distributing the ball from one end of the pitch to another. The Moroccan is versatile as he can operate not only in the right-wing slot but also in the no.10 role.

The 26-year-old possesses a good turn of pace and he plays with a certain kind of directness that would make him ideally suited to the attacking and expansive system Solskjaer wants to employ at United next season. Furthermore, Ziyech is a set-piece expert and an all-day threat from long-range as well, thanks to his venomous left foot.

Verdict

In today’s day and age, £30 million for a player with Ziyech’s ability and experience would surely be considered as a real bargain, and United must do everything within their power to bring him to Old Trafford this summer.
