Manchester City Opinion: Manchester City signing Nabil Fekir is a good move

According to a recent report by The Sun, Ligue 1 giants Lyon informed French international midfielder Nabil Fekir that he is free to leave during the upcoming transfer window.

Despite being contracted to Lyon until the end of next season, Lyon are looking to sell their man in order to avoid letting him walk away for free.

It has been suggested that the Lyon president has admitted of Fekir’s potential departure in the summer and has thanked the Frenchman for his years of honourable service.

There is an understanding that is said to be in place between the player and his current employers regarding his departure and that could mean that his time with Lyon is drawing to a close.

Fekir’s future has been under scrutiny by the footballing media for the last couple of seasons and now that his departure has effectively been confirmed by Lyon, it has alerted multiple interested parties.

The report is claiming that the interest of both Liverpool and Manchester City have been piqued since this news came out.

While Liverpool have been in the driving seat with regard to the youngster’s acquisition, Manchester City are said to have thrown their name into the hat as well.

The fact that they’re managed by Pep Guardiola and are also the defending Premier League champions should be more than enough motivation to convince Fekir.

Manchester City have been one of the most active sides in the recent transfer windows and despite the immensely talented squad at Pep Guardiola’s disposal, there is still a need for improvements in the summer.

The inconsistency of Riyad Mahrez and Pep’s apparent hesitation to play Leroy Sane mean that City should be in the market for a new winger before the next season begins.

Although not a winger by position, Fekir is capable of being played on the flanks and can also do an equally good job in midfield. Like Bernardo Silva has done for City this season, Fekir could slot into that role in the 3-man midfield with ease.

His ability to keep the ball in tight spaces and pass it around in order to bring teammates into the game will certainly add a new dimension to the City attack.

The Frenchman has been a Lyon player since joining from AS Saint-Priest back in 2011. This season though, he’s contributed quite heavily to the side, having notched up an impressive tally of 9 goals and 7 assists from 29 Ligue 1 games.

A player of Fekir’s finesse and calibre could be exactly what Manchester City need and under the guidance of Guardiola, he could develop into one of the Premier League’s best midfielders.
