Manchester United considering a move for Samuel Chukwueze – Do they need him?
According to The Sun, Manchester United are among the clubs interested in Samuel Chukwueze. The forward is evaluating his options at this time with a few clubs interested in his services. While he may have a gigantic £80million release clause, he could be available for much less given the current economic climate. Everton and Leicester are the other clubs keeping tabs on him.
Profile
Samuel Chukwueze is a 21-year-old Nigerian forward who plays for La Liga side Villarreal CF. He started playing football for local side Diamond Hope in 2012 and moved to Villarreal’s youth setup after 5 years.
On his signing, he was drafted to the U-19s and continued there for a season. Post that, he was promoted to the Villarreal B side in 2018. That season, he managed to play 20 games, scoring 4 goals and assisting 2.
Within a few months of playing for the B side, he was called up and promoted to the senior side. Since then, Chukwueze has become a vital part of the ‘Yellow Submarine’. He has made 89 appearances for them, scoring 13 goals and assisting 11 (source – Transfermarkt).
Despite his young age, he is a full international for Nigeria now. So far, he has made 14 appearances for them, scoring twice.
Manchester United should sign Chukwueze
It is a well known fact that Manchester United need a specialist right-winger. While Mason Greenwood has done well there. He looks more comfortable as a striker in the box. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s defensive nature means that he hardly provides anything from an attacking perspective down the right. This creates a disbalance in the game.
Manchester United kept signed two very young wingers in Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo. While they are players with potential, they are not the established players manchester United need right now.
Samuel Chukwueze offers them a good blend of youth and experience. Just 21, Chukwueze has already made close to 90 appearances for Villarreal. He is a versatile player who usually plays as right-winger but can play on the other flank or in attacking midfield if required.
