Why Manchester United should press ahead with their interest in Corentin Tolisso
As per a report from the Express, Manchester United keen on signing Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso in the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman has been a target for the Red Devils for quite some time now. They even tried to bring the midfield star on loan in the January transfer window, but failed in their attempt. However, Bayern are now willing to offload him and the player himself fancies a move to the Premier League. (h/t Express)
A product of the Olympique Lyon youth setup, Tolisso broke into the first-team in 2013. He went on to make 160 appearances for the French club, in which he scored 29 goals and set up 17.
Having been impressed by his exploits in France, Bayern snapped him up in 2017. Since joining the German heavyweights, Tolisso has made 68 appearances for the club, bagging 14 goals and 12 assists.
Manchester United, meanwhile, have recovered from a shoddy start in the latter stages of the campaign. At the time of season suspension, they were fifth in the Premier League table, while staying in contention for the FA Cup and the Europa League.
Bruno Fernandes’ January arrival has sparked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, adding the much-needed creativity that was missing throughout the season. Along with the Portuguese, the rest of the midfielders – Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic have also improved vastly, playing a role in the club’s resurgent run.
While the midfield department looks sorted at Old Trafford, Paul Pogba’s future represents a concern for Manchester United. The 27-year-old is once again being linked with an exit from the club heading into the summer. Recent reports have claimed that the Frenchman is on the verge of sealing a return to Juventus. Hence, Manchester United should bring in another quality midfielder to add to their current roster in the summer transfer window. Having said that, Tolisso would represent a good investment for the 20-time English champions.
Tolisso has had to battle injury problems over the past year and a half or so. Indeed, the midfielder featured in just four matches last season before a knee injury ended his campaign. In the 2019/20 term, ankle issues have seen him miss out on a large chunk of the season.
However, the midfielder has shown his quality in abundance every time he has taken the field. He may have played just 24 times this season, but has chipped in with 3 goals and 5 assists. Going back to his debut season with Bayern, Tolisso amassed a return of 10 goals and 7 assists in 40 matches.
These numbers are indicative enough of the quality and the goal-output that the Frenchman can provide when fit. In addition, Tolisso is just 25 years old and has his best years well ahead of him.

Signing him would mean Manchester United will have a direct replacement for Pogba. Furthermore, the Frenchman will be adding immense quality to the squad and would be a long-term option given his age.

Despite his recent injury woes, Tolisso is a class midfielder who would be adding great depth and quality to the Manchester United squad. A World Cup winner and two-time German champion with Bayern, he would bring winning mentality to the side as well. Hence, Manchester United should press ahead in their efforts to sign the 25-year-old.
