Manchester United vs Manchester City prediction: Manchester United line up
Manchester United are set to host cross-town rivals Manchester City on Sunday at Old Trafford, making it the fourth Manchester derby this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has led his team brilliantly in the last couple of months as the Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 10 games across all competitions. However, this will be a stern test for them as they face a City side that has recently beaten La Liga giants Real Madrid. Nothing but a win would ensure United keep their hopes of Champions League qualification alive.
On the other hand, Pep Guardiola would be hoping to take three points against Manchester United after losing twice in three games to the same opponents this season.
Team News
Solskjaer would be worried as some of his key players including Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are doubtful for the game as they didn’t feature in midweek. Daniel James is also doubtful for the game.
Paul Pogba continues to be away from training as he is recovering from an ankle injury and will be a notable absentee on Sunday.
Predicted Man United XI
Formation: 4-2-3-1
David De Gea (GK)
The Spaniard is not at his best this season but will be a starter as he is the first-choice for United in goal.
Diogo Dalot (RB)
Dalot is likely to get the nod ahead of Wan-Bissaka, who is doubtful for the game. The Portuguese needs to be at his best against City’s attack.
Victor Lindelof (CB)
The Swede has improved a lot this season alongside Maguire and will retain his spot, hoping to help the team register another clean sheet.
Eric Bailly (CB)
The 25-year-old has been impressive since his return from injury. He would definitely start in the absence of the English defender as he did against Derby County.
Luke Shaw (LB)
One of the best players in midweek in the FA Cup, Shaw would have to be more direct in his forward runs. His confidence would have been boosted after he scored a wonderful goal in the last outing.
Fred (CM)
The Brazilian will be key to connect the defence and the attack. He should be able to keep City’s attack at bay and nullify the opponent’s progress.
Scott McTominay (CM)
The youngster’s return to the team has been a huge boost and will need to take his game to the next level, importantly in this crunch fixture. He would be an undoubted starter.
Jesse Lingard (LW)
Despite his abysmal performance throughout the campaign, Lingard is likely to start in the absence of James. He needs to prove his worth by contributing with a goal or an assist.
Bruno Fernandes (AM)
The Portuguese playmaker is one of the finest players United have in their ranks in recent years. His arrival has brought a new dimension to the team’s attack and will play a vital role in creating chances for his side.
Juan Mata (RW)
The former Chelsea man will retain his spot but should take his chances and improve in his finishing and must be good against Benjamin Mendy on the right flank.
