Marcos Andres Giron aka. Marcos Giron started playing tennis at a very young age. Giron was a college tennis player and in 2014, he even won the singles title at the 2014 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships for UCLA.
Giron won the boy’s singles in the Ojai Tennis Tournament in 2009 and the men’s invitational in 2011.
In 2014, Giron declared himself as a professional. Although Giron became a professional, in his early years, Giron didn’t play much in Grand Slams or ATP Tour events. On the other hand, Giron actively participated in ATP Challenger tours and ITF Futures finals.
Finally, in 2020, Giron made a breakthrough in his career. For the first time in his career, Giron reached the second rounds of a Grand Slam at the 2020 US Open. To reach the second round at the 2020 US Open, Giron defeated Marc Polmans in five sets in his first Grand Slam main draw.
Further, in the 2020 French Open, Giron also reached the second round for the first time in his career.
Next, in November 2020, Giron recorded his first top-ten win against Matteo Berrettini at the Paris Masters.
In 2021, Giron participated at the 2021 Australian Open for a second consecutive year but lost in the first round against Alexander Zverev.
In June 2021, Giron reached the third round of a Grand Slam at the 2021 French Open for the first time in his career.
At the 2021 Halle Open, Giron reached his first quarterfinal at an ATP 500 level tournament as a qualifier. However, in the quarterfinal, Giron was defeated by Félix Auger-Aliassime. As a result of his recent success, Giron reached a then career-high of No. 65 on June 21, 2021.
Giron also participated in the Tokyo Olympics, where he reached the second round. Sadly, in the second round, Giron lost against Kei Nishikori in three sets.
In September at the 2021 Sofia Open, Giron reached his first career ATP tour-level semifinal. Before reaching the Sofia Open semifinal, Giron defeated third seed Alex de Minaur in the second round. Unfortunately, in the semifinal, Giron lost against Gaël Monfils.
The result of Sofia Open helped Giron reach a new career-high ranking in the top 60 at world No. 59 on October 4, 2021.
Notably, in 2021, Giron reached four quarterfinals at an ATP level tournament (Halle, Metz, Winston-Salem, and Sofia).
In 2022, at the 2022 Dallas Open, Giron reached his second ATP tour semifinal. In the semifinal, Giron lost against Jenson Brooksby.
