Marcus Mariota Early life

Alana Deppe-Mariota and Toa Mariota welcomed Marcus Mariota into the world on October 30, 1993, in Honolulu, Hawaii. 

For the first few years of high school, Marcus was only an ordinary player who was comparatively unheard of. However, in the last year, he had a miraculous metamorphosis and stunned everyone with his skill on the field. As a senior on the school team, he had a significant impact on the squad’s 11-1 record and state championship victory.

Marcus Mariota College career

He redshirted in 2011, which led to him beginning his college football career with the Oregon Ducks in 2012. Marcus started all 13 of the games he participated in during his first season for his team, and he finished the year with 32 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. During the game against Arizona State, Marcus caught a touchdown pass, passed one, and then ran for 86 yards to score, his performance was at its very best. He declared for the 2015 NFL Draft, went to the Tennessee Titans as the second overall choice, and made his regular-season debut in September of that year. Marcus displayed his prowess in the 12 games he played for the Titans during his rookie season, compiling 2,818 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He set the record for the most passing touchdowns by a rookie player when he was just 19 years old.

Throughout the season, his knee ailment persisted in a few games, which was problematic for the team. However, it did not prevent him from meeting the standards of performance. He was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month in November 2016 during his second season after throwing 1,124 yards with 11 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

He was also named one of the top 50 NFL players of 2017 by his peers. He was also given the honor of being the Pro Bowl’s first alternate. 

Marcus finished the regular season of the 2017 campaign with 3,232 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Marcus’ contract was extended by two more years when a fifth-year option was selected in April 2018.

Mariota’s final stats for the 2018 campaign were a career-low 2,528 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Nevertheless, he ran for a career-high 357 yards and two touchdowns.

Mariota and the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to a two-year, $17.6 million contract on March 25, 2020. On September 7, 2020, Mariota was placed on injured reserve. On September 30, Mariota was deemed ready to leave the injury list and started working out with the team once more. ] He became operational on October 20. 

After starting quarterback Derek Carr departed the game with a groin injury in the first quarter of a Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mariota made his Raiders debut. The Raiders were defeated 30-27 in overtime by Mariota, 

Mariota committed to the Atlanta Falcons on March 21, 2022, in a two-year, $18.75 million deal. Following an open competition with youngster Desmond Ridder for the starting quarterback position over the offseason, Mariota was declared the Falcons’ starting quarterback on July 28, 2022. 

For the Week 15 matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints on December 8, 2022, Mariota was benched in favor of Desmond Ridder. On December 14, 2022, Mariota’s knee injury led to his placement on injured reserve.
