Maria Sharapova was one of the most successful tennis stars and amassed a huge net worth
Maria Sharapova is a former Russian professional tennis player who recently announced her retirement aged 32.
Sharapova is also one of the highest-paid female athletes in the World and the only Russian to hold a career Grand Slam.
She has won five Grand Slam titles – a number which many consider could have been bettered if not for the injuries she suffered later in her career. Sharapova’s pretty looks have also seen her featured in several modeling assignments.
Touted as one of the biggest competitors of the game, Sharapova’s tennis career dealt a major blow when she received a 15-month ban after she failed a drug test at the 2016 Australian Open.
If not for her game, Sharapova managed to have a lot of fans and followers due to her pretty looks, which has seen her getting involved in a number of on-court and off-court controversies.
Sharapova was a former World No.1 – something which she achieved back in August 2005 after her stunning 2004 Wimbledon title triumph.
She was only 17-year-old when she won her maiden Grand Slam title in England. Sharapova was also the first Russian female tennis player to hold on to the top-ranking.

The Russian star has an estimated net worth of a whopping US $180 million. Maria Sharapova has earned more than $38 million from tennis and her net worth also includes assets. She is an entrepreneur, and invested in businesses like candy, real estate, venture capital firms, and beauty products. All these make Maria Sharapova one of the richest tennis players.
For eleven years Sharapova was the top-earning female athlete in the world. Despite the 15-month ban she received midway in her career which saw her earnings take a slump, Forbes reported that she still earned the US $10.5 million.
There wouldn’t be any other popular figure in tennis, especially women’s tennis who would have been the face of numerous brands as Sharapova. She would be the only tennis star whose endorsement earnings still outnumber her on-court earnings.
Sharapova has held several endorsements and sponsorships with a huge variety of brands and companies, including a $70million deal with Nike in 2010. She even launched the ‘Nike Maria Sharapova Collection’ with them.

As per the WTA records, Sharapova’s total career winnings amount to as much as US $38,777,962 to date.
Though all of these have come from her winnings from tennis it is believed that Sharapova has amassed the majority of her wealth from a string of endorsements and sponsorship deals which exceed her prize money winnings.
Sharapova, who enjoyed celebrity status throughout her career has in the past had several relationships. However, late, she is rumored to be in a relationship with Britain’s Prince Harry’s friend Alexander Gilkes.
