Predicted Man United XI to face Juventus: Who should start?

Matchday three of the UEFA Champions League presents an intriguing battle as Manchester United welcome Italian giants Juventus for a titanic clash.

The Red Devils haven’t been in great form this season but Jose Mourinho will have plenty of positives to take into the Champions League tie after his team showed immense character to fight back against Newcastle and Chelsea.

Juventus are currently the leaders of Group H after back-to-back wins against Valencia and Young Boys while United dropped points against Valencia at home in the 0-0 draw before the international break.

The epic clash also marks the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford and the away fans will be hoping that their talisman can produce that bit of magic to turn the tables in their favour.

Team News

Manchester United will be without the services of Jesse Lingard and Marouane Fellaini who are yet to recover fully from their groin injuries. Scott McTominay did not feature in the matchday squad against Chelsea due to a knee injury and his selection will be subject to a late fitness test. Marcos Rojo and Diogo Dalot are unlikely to feature on Tuesday due to minor injuries

Apart from that, Jose Mourinho will have the entire squad at his disposal but the manager would probably prefer to stick with the same line-up that played so well against Chelsea.

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Predicted XI

David De Gea (GK)

Made some magical saves against Chelsea to keep his team in the hunt and has always been a reliable presence between the sticks.

Ashley Young (RB)

The English international struggled to cope with the threat of Eden Hazard on Saturday and he is likely to have another tough day against Cristiano Ronaldo.

Chris Smalling (CB)

He wasn’t at his best against Chelsea but has established himself as the leader of the backline this season.

Victor Lindelof (CB)

The Swedish international looked solid at the heart of United’s defence on Saturday; seems to be growing in confidence slowly and Mourinho should hand him another start ahead of Eric Bailly.

Luke Shaw (LB)

He has been solid all season and has contributed equally to the defence and the attack. United must bank on him to deliver the goods on Tuesday.

Nemanja Matic (CDM)

The Serbian looked a bit off the pace against Chelsea but could play a key role in the Champions League tie.

Fred (RCM)

Injuries to Marouane Fellaini and Scott McTominay might open the door for the Brazilian to make an impact.

Paul Pogba (LCM)

He let his team down on Saturday with a horrible lapse of concentration and will have his work cut out against the likes of Blaise Matuidi and Miralem Pjanic in midfield.

Anthony Martial (LW)

The Frenchman seems to have found his scoring touch since the past couple of games and Mourinho should hand him another start ahead of Alexis Sanchez.

Marcus Rashford (RW)

He was brilliant for England against Spain but did not have the same impact against Chelsea. However, he is likely to start ahead of Juan Mata.

Romelu Lukaku (ST)

It seems ages since he got his name on the scoresheet but United don’t have too many choices for the No.9 spot.
