Mats Wilander is an eight-time Grand Slam Champion and a former World No.1, who represented Sweden in men’s tennis. He officially retired from Tennis in 1996 and is considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the sport.
In his illustrious career, Wilander has won the Australian Open three times, the French Open three times, Wimbledon one time and the US Open one time, all contributing to his tally of 40 career titles on the ATP tour.
Wilander is widely remembered for winning the 1982 French Open men’s singles title at the age of just 17. He is one of the only six men alongside Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to have won major singles titles on grass courts, hard courts, and clay courts.
At the age of 20, the Swedish star became the youngest player to win four major singles titles. He won 33 singles titles and seven doubles titles during his career. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002 for his incredible achievements.
