Chelsea should recall Tammy Abraham from loan to solve their No.9 woes
According to Birmingham Live, Chelsea are interested in recalling 21-year-old striker Tammy Abraham from his loan spell at Aston Villa.
Abraham has been in prime form at Villa Park in the Championship this season, scoring 11 goals from 14 appearances. If there is anything that embodies his fine start to the season, it has to be the four-goal haul in Villa’s 5-5 draw against Nottingham Forest last week. The 21-year-old kept the Lions in the game, equalising each time Forest took the lead and completed a hat-trick in the first half.
The 21-year-old, who has been capped by England twice at the senior level, last played for Chelsea back in 2016 and hasn’t got a look in since then, spending time on loan at Championship clubs Bristol City and Swansea City.
Abraham had a wonderful loan spell at Bristol City in the 2016-17 where he scored as many as 23 goals and provided 3 assists but he couldn’t quite replicate his heroics last season at Swansea City.
However, things have worked out for him at Aston Villa this season and Abraham has once again proven his clinical nature in front of goal, prompting the Blues to trigger the recall-clause in his season-long loan agreement.
Meanwhile, Chelsea got themselves back to winning ways in the West London derby with a 2-0 victory over Fulham on Sunday, thanks to goals from Pedro and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The 3-1 humbling at the hands of Spurs last week marked Maurizio Sarri’s first taste of defeat after a 12-game unbeaten run in the Premier League. However, the derby day win against Fulham should do a world of good to Chelsea’s confidence.
As much as Chelsea have promised in the attacking third this season, the Blues have been hit hard by the failure of strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud to deliver the goods.
Morata showed signs of returning to form with a brace against Crystal Palace but he has largely underwhelmed since then. Olivier Giroud has found the net only once in the Premier League this season but has contributed with a few assists. To sum it up, neither of the strikers has hit the ground running so far this season.
Chelsea have relied on the likes of Eden Hazard and Pedro to deliver the goals. Willian hasn’t been at the top of his game this season. The Brazilian has tried a lot of things, twisting and turning in the final third to bamboozle the defenders but things just haven’t fallen into place for him.

With Mitchy Batshuayi already on loan at Valencia, Chelsea do not have another No.9 in their squad to solve their crisis in front of goal. And that is exactly the reason why the Blues should exercise their recall clause to bring Tammy Abraham back to the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea need more firepower in the final third to challenge the top-six teams in the Premier League. Much of their woes this season has been down to the lacklustre displays of the centre-forwards and Tammy Abraham has all the talent in the world to bring that X-factor to Chelsea’s forward line.
