All you need to know about if the New York Yankees are signing a new starting pitcher after the injury to Frankie Montas.
The news that veteran right-hander Frankie Montas will miss most of the season or even all of it due to shoulder surgery was delivered to the Yankees earlier this week, and it was a blow to their projections for their starting rotation. Even yet, according to Andy Martino of SNY, the Yankees are not anticipated to make a deal to replace Montas in the starting five positions that he currently holds.
Martino relays the information that he was told by a source that the Yankees intend to rely on in-house players such as Domingo Germán and Clarke Schmidt. During the time in December when it appeared that Carlos Correa would be signing with the Mets, the Yankees did make an inquiry about veteran right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco. However, Martino’s sources believe that Carrasco had been removed from the trade block even before the Yankees made their inquiry.
The Yankees won’t be able to find much assistance on the free-agent market. Mike Minor, Michael Pineda, and Dylan Bundy are seen as the best candidates to start the game. It is not anticipated that any of the three will surpass one Win Above Replacement.
The New York Yankees suffered a humiliating loss to the Houston Astros in the previous season, but they have high hopes for this year’s campaign and believe they can make a run at the World Series to fulfill the expectations of their fans.
