Predicted Man United XI to face Southampton in the Premier League
Manchester United will welcome Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to make the most of home soil advantage in this one.
The Red Devils, despite having a significant amount of injuries, produced a fantastic performance at Selhurst Park to beat Crystal Palace 3-1 on Wednesday. It was United’s eighth successive away league win on the bounce.
Southampton, meanwhile, picked up a massive three points in midweek too against fellow relegation-threatened rivals Fulham.
Team news
Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are all injured.
Phil Jones missed the last few games through illness but could be back for the Saturday’s game.
Probable Manchester United XI
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manager: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
David de Gea (GK)
He missed the clean-sheet in the victory over Palace but would be confident to get one against a goal-shy Southampton.
Diogo Dalot (RB)
Dalot played well at right wing against Palace but could be deployed in his usual role at right-back on Saturday.
Chris Smalling (CB)
The centre-back duo of Smalling and Lindelof did a very good job on Wednesday and expect them to start against the Saints.
Victor Lindelof (CB)
Lindelof has nailed down a regular place in the team with consistent performances at the back. He will retain his place in the starting XI on Saturday.
Luke Shaw (LB)
Shaw put in a brilliant display against Palace and assisted one of Lukaku’s goals. He would be high on confidence going into the game on Saturday.
Scott McTominay (CM)
McTominay has really grabbed his opportunities with both the hands in the absence of Matic and Herrera. He is a certain starter against Southampton.
Fred (CM)
Looked rusty on Wednesday at Selhurst Park. The Brazilian needs a run of games to get back his mojo. He is expected to start alongside McTominay in the middle of the park.
Marcus Rashford (LW)
On the left could be Rashford, who will look to use his pace and directness to torment the Southampton defenders.
Paul Pogba (CAM)
The Frenchman has been in great form since Solskjaer’s arrival. He’ll have to produce a big performance if Manchester United are to win at the weekend.
Alexis Sanchez (RW)
Sanchez has looked sharper in the last couple of games. The Chilean will start on the right, hoping to influence the proceedings on Saturday.
Romelu Lukaku (ST)
A brace at Crystal Palace would have given Lukaku a lot of confidence. He deserves to keep his place in the team and spearhead their attack.
