Two promising players Sebastian Korda and Lorenzo Musetti face each other in the round of 16 at Metz 2022 on Wednesday.
The world No. 49 has put in some decent performances this season. He began with a run to the third round of the Australian Open followed by a quarterfinal appearance at the Delray Beach Open. After a few disappointing outings, Korda came up with an impressive showing at the Estoril Open, reaching the semifinals, where he lost to compatriot Frances Tiafoe.
The 22-year-old made it to the third round at the French Open and the quarterfinals at the Citi Open. Korda is coming into the tournament on the back of a second-round exit at Flushing Meadows. In the first match, Korda got a tight 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win against Hugo Gaston.
The Italian youngster reached the quarterfinals of the Maharashtra Open and the ATP Rotterdam in February. After some unpleasant results in the following tournaments, Musetti put on a strong show at the Grand Prix Hassan II and made it to the quarterfinals. The 20-year-old won a Challenger event in Forli but his biggest triumph was yet to come. Musetti defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the German Open final to win his first WTA title.
At the US Open, Musetti defeated David Goffin in the first round in what was a stunning match. In the second round, he defeated Gijs Brouwer before losing to Ilya Ivashka in the third.
Lorenzo Musetti has a 2-1 lead against Sebastian Korda in the head-to-head.
Prediction: Lorenzo Musetti to win in three sets.
