Two young and exciting Frenchmen – Ugo Humbert and Benjamin Bonzi lock horns in the round of 32 of Metz 2022.
The 24-year-old Ugo Humbert did not have a great start to the year. He was ousted in the first round at the Australian Open and suffered the same fate in the following three tournaments as well. Humbert made it to the round of 16 at the Lyon Open and Halle Open.
The World No. 110 reached the third round at Wimbledon. He found some form in the Challenger events that followed. Humbert is coming into the tournament on the back of a triumphant campaign in the Challenger event in Rennes. He defeated the 2020 US Open champion, Dominic Thiem, in the final.
The World No. 61 has won a couple of Challenger events this year. Bonzi reached the semifinals at the Open 13 and the Mallorca Open. He did have a fair number of first-round exits but overall, it has been a decent year for the 26-year-old.
Bonzi has also made it to the quarterfinals at the Stuttgart Open, the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, and the Winston-Salem Open. In the recently-concluded US Open, Bonzi won the first match against Ugo Humbert before going down against Nick Kyrgios in the following round.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0. Bonzi defeated compatriot Humbert in the first round of the US Open in a five-set thriller 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 6-2.
Prediction: Benjamin Bonzi to win in three sets.
