After dropping a closely-contested first set, Rune bounced back strongly to win the match 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-2. The world No. 22 has reached his first semifinal in 2023 after losing quarter-final matches in the ATP Rotterdam Open and the Open 13. In the first round, de Minaur eased past Rodrigo Pachecho Mendez in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The Australian star followed it up with another comprehensive win against Jacopo Berrettini in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. De Minaur converted 5 out of 6 break points in this clash.

The dominating run continued in the quarterfinals as de Minaur ousted Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-2. The former had a win percentage of 95 on the first serve.
