4th seed Holger Rune will take on 8th seed Alex de Minaur in the semifinals of the 2023 Mexican Open on Friday.

The 19-year-old has reached his second semifinal of the season. He had a tough outing against Ben Shelton in the round of 32. After dropping a closely-contested first set, Rune bounced back strongly to win the match 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-2. In the round of 16, Rune made light work of Nuno Borges, winning the match in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 with a win percentage of 81 on the first serve.
In the quarterfinals, Rune faced Matteo Berrettini. The Danish youngster bageled Berrettini in the first set. The experienced Italian was trailing 0-6, 0-1 when he pulled out. Rune has only been broken once in the tournament thus far, and that was in the first match.

The world No. 22 has reached his first semifinal in 2023 after losing quarter-final matches in the ATP Rotterdam Open and the Open 13. In the first round, de Minaur eased past Rodrigo Pachecho Mendez in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The Australian star followed it up with another comprehensive win against Jacopo Berrettini in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. De Minaur converted 5 out of 6 break points in this clash.
The dominating run continued in the quarterfinals as de Minaur ousted Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-2. The former had a win percentage of 95 on the first serve.
