Argentine veteran Federico Coria takes on the talented Jiri Lehecka in the round of 128 of the 2023 Miami Open on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old won his first title in the Challenger event in Concepcion in January. He followed it up with a run to the finals of the Cordoba Open. Coria lost to Sebastian Baez in the final.
Coria comes into the tournament on the back of a 3-match losing streak. He competed in Indian Wells recently where his run ended in the round of 128 when he was outplayed by compatriot Diego Schwartzman. Last year in Miami, Coria couldn’t get past the round of 128 as he lost to Jenson Brooksby. Coria will be hoping for a deeper run in this year’s tournament.
The Czech youngster had a promising start to the season but has fallen off the radar of late. He made it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and followed it up with a run to the semifinals of the Qatar Open. Since then, Lehecka has played in the Dubai Tennis Championships where he was ousted in the round of 32 and also Indian Wells where he exited in the round of 64.
The 21-year-old was most recently seen in action in a Challenger event in Phoenix, USA. He entered the tournament as the 5th seed but couldn’t progress past the first round.
Jiri Lehecka has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Federico Coria. The youngster won their only previous meeting in the round of 16 of the 2021 Slovak Open 7-6, 7-6.
Prediction: Jiri Lehecka to win in straight sets.
