Doubles No. 1 Katerina Siniakova takes on Claire Liu in the round of 128 of the 2023 Miami Open on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old is a champion doubles player and alongside Barbora Krejcikova, she has already won a couple of titles this year. On the singles front, Siniakova played her best tennis in the Merida Open last month. The Czech star reached the semifinals with wins against Lesia Tsurenko, Ysaline Bonaventure, and Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Siniakova eventually lost to Camila Giorgi in two competitive sets.
Siniakova was most recently seen in action at Indian Wells. She defeated Jule Niemeier in the round of 128 but couldn’t progress beyond the following round. Siniakova lost to Beatriz Haddad Maia after winning the first set.
The American youngster has crashed out in the second round in three tournaments this season. Liu played in Indian Wells recently but couldn’t get past the round of 64. In the first round, Liu defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova but world No. 1 Iga Swiatek got the better of the 22-year-old in the following round.
Last year in the Miami Open, Liu was ousted by Lesia Tsurenko in the first round of qualifying. This time she will start from the main draw and hope to have a deep run in the WTA 1000 event.
Katerina Siniakova and Claire Liu have faced each other on a couple of occasions thus far. The American youngster has an unblemished 2-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline. Liu defeated Siniakova earlier this year in a qualifying match for the Adelaide International 1, 0-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Prediction: Katerina Siniakova to win in straight sets.
