The world of F1 was in shock when news came out of Michael Schumacher injuring himself in a skiing accident in December 2013.
The seven-time F1 champion hit his head while skiing in the French Alps and was accompanied by his 14-year-old son, Mick.
Schumacher was wearing a helmet, which saved his life. The German underwent a couple of surgeries at Grenoble Hospital afterwards.
However, the F1 legend was put in a medically induced coma due to a brain injury.
The Ferrari star continued to make progress and remained in the hospital for several months.
On 4 April 2014, Schumacher was showing marks of improvement and was taken out of his medically induced coma.
Schumacher left the hospital for additional rehab at University Hospital (CHUV) in Lausanne later.
The German’s progress continued and soon after, he left the University Hospital and was back at his home in September 2014.
Updates have been few and far between regarding the health of Schumacher. However, Felix Damm, the lawyer for Schumacher told a court that his client could not walk, while responding to a paper’s claim that the German could walk a couple of steps.
In 2019, Schumacher was admitted to Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou in Paris. He was under the care of cardiovascular surgeon Philippe Menasché, and after undergoing treatment, the German was conscious.
Corinna, Michael’s wife, is the one who decides who gets to meet the F1 legend or not. Luca Badoer, a former Ferrari driver confirmed the same in an interview.
There was a major update from former Ferrari head and a close friend of Schumacher, Jean Todt too.
Todt was speaking to Radio Monte-Carlo in 2019 and provided some details about the German:
“I’m always careful with such statements, but it’s true.
“I saw the race together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland.”
Todt also went on to say that Shumi’s family is taking care of the legend. Bernie Ecclestone added that the German would be able to recover and answer questions on his own.
The family hasn’t provided too many details in the open and hopefully, the German makes a complete recovery soon.

Mick, Michael’s son, has been making his move to the F1 circuit and even tested cars in 2019.
