Haas driver Mick Schumacher was taken to the hospital for precautionary checks after a high-speed crash in the second qualifying session at the Saudi Arabian GP.
Mick Schumacher had a heavy crash during qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, but fortunately, the Haas driver did not suffer any injuries as a result. However, Haas confirmed that Schumacher will not be participating in Sunday’s race.
The F1 paddock held its breath for a few moments as the medical car reached the scene. Schumacher was airlifted to a nearby hospital for precautionary checks but later took to social media to confirm that he was ‘ok’. Haas also released a statement saying that their 23-year old driver was released from the hospital and returned back safely to his hotel.
Schumacher seemed to have lost control of his Haas at Turn 9 and slammed against the inside barrier before rebounding back across the track and coming to a halt beyond Turn 10. The Q2 session was then red-flagged and no more cars returned to the circuit for nearly an hour as the marshals cleared up the debris off the track.
When the medical car arrived on the scene of the crash, Schumacher was conscious and responding to the team that was at the spot. However, the radio contact between the driver and his engineer was disconnected and fans held their breath over Schumacher’s condition. More so, the German did not get out of the car by himself for a few minutes and stayed in the cockpit.
The impact of the crash broke Schumacher’s Haas in two pieces, with the gearbox assembly falling off while the wreckage was being lifted onto a recovery truck. Schumacher was taken to the King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah and reports confirmed that he did not sustain any injuries.
