Miesha Tate made her MMA debut on the 24th of November, 2007. She took on Jan Finney in a promotion called HOOKnSHOOT.
In her first 10 fights, she featured in several promotions before settling down in Strikeforce. In just her fourth fight in the promotion, Tate won the Strikeforce Women’s bantamweight championship.
She then faced the legendary Ronda Rousey in her first title defense. However, Rousey was just too strong for Tate as she won the fight and eventually the championship, via technical submission.
Tate made her UFC debut against Cat Zingano at the Ultimate Fighter 17 finale. Zingano won the fight via. TKO in the third round. Not the debut she would have wanted.
She then faced Ronda Rousey in a rematch at UFC 168, and was once again defeated.
Tate would then embark on a four-fight win streak, which eventually earns her a title shot. Tate faced Holly Holm for the women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 196.
‘Cupcake’ beat Holm in the fifth round of the match via. submission to become the UFC women’s bantamweight champion for the first time. That win earned her the Performance of the Year award (2016).
Tate then lost her title in the very next match to Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 in the very first round of the fight.
Following her defeat against Raquel Pennington in the next fight at UFC 205, Tate announced her retirement from the sport. Her MMA record stands at 18 wins and 7 losses.
5 years after her retirement, Tate returned on the 17th of July against Marion Reneau. She won the fight via. TKO in the third round.
