Early career

Alvarado, a talented wrestler from Skyview High School in Colorado, managed to secure the title of Colorado Class 4A state high school wrestling champion not once but twice. However, he made an unconventional choice by choosing not to pursue wrestling in college and instead pursuing a career in boxing. Despite this, he managed to achieve great success in the sport in just three years, compiling an impressive record of 36-5.

Alvarado’s opponents included highly skilled fighters such as Chad Aquino and Andre Dirrell, who went on to compete in the 2004 Athens Olympics Aquino and Dirrell were both defeated by Alvarado, who went on to capture the prestigious Ringside National Championship in 2001. Professional career

Alvarado withdrew from his fight against Paulie Malignaggi due to an elbow injury in 2009. He returned to boxing after serving a 5-month prison sentence and knocked out Lenin Arroyo in the second round. However, he was sent back to jail for parole violations before his scheduled fight on Latin Fury 15. After his release, Alvarado won against Joshua Burns.

He defeated Raymond Narh to win the WBC Continental Americas Light Welterweight Championship, which he later vacated before his fight with Gabriel Martínez on the Pacquiao vs. Mosley undercard. Alvarado won the IBF Latino Light Welterweight Championship against Gabriel Martínez on July 30, 2011, in Denver, Colorado.
