J. D. Davis, a former third baseman for the Houston Astros, stated in a statement that he made in 2019 that he was unaware of any electronic sign stealing committed by the Astros in 2017, the year that he made his debut in the major leagues with Houston.

Davis was selected by Houston in the third round of the amateur draught in 2014, and on August 5, 2017, he made his debut in the major leagues. Davis stated that he had not been contacted by MLB investigators over the matter. In his tenure with the Astros, he played 66 games and had a batting average of.194 with 32 hits, 5 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 17 runs scored.

An investigation was opened by Major League Baseball after allegations were made in a report by a pitcher named Mike Fiers that the Houston Astros had utilized a camera to steal signs en route to winning the World Series. Formerly with the Astros in 2017, Fiers is currently playing for Oakland.

Speaking about it, he said, “I wish I would have known because I batted only like .180, .200 or something like that, I really have no idea or no clue.” That scandal by the Houston Astros will be forever remembered as it tarnished the image on many, but as per Davis, he had no involvement in it.

J.D. Davis was born in 1996 and went to high school in Elk Grove, California, which is also the name of his alma mater. During the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, the Tampa Bay Rays selected him in the fifth round of the draught.

Davis, however, did not sign and instead enrolled at California State University, Fullerton, where he later became a member of the Cal State Fullerton Titans baseball team and played college baseball from 2012 to 2014. Davis was a pitcher who also played first base with the team. He played 156 games for the Titans over the course of his three seasons with them and had a batting line of.307/.394/.461 with 14 home runs and 113 runs batted in (RBIs).

Davis was selected by the Houston Astros in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft following the completion of his junior year of college baseball. It cost him $748,600 to sign with the Astros, and he made his first appearance in a professional game with the Tri-City ValleyCats.

For the 2015 season, he was a member of the Class A-Advanced California League team known as the Lancaster JetHawks. Davis was a member of the Corpus Christi Hooks, a team that competed in the Class AA Texas League in 2016. There, he was the league leader in doubles with 34 and in at-bats as well. 10th in the Texas League with a batting line of 268/334/485, including 61 runs scored (eighth), 23 home runs (third), 81 RBIs (third), 45 walks (eighth), and 143 strikeouts (3rd). He was given the accolade of Minor League Baseball Organization All-Star.

On August 5, 2017, the Astros made the decision to promote Davis to the major leagues. Davis and Cody Bohanek were sent to the New York Mets in a deal that took place on January 6, 2019. The Astros received Ross Adolph, Luis Santana, and Scott Manea in exchange. During the 2020 season, Davis appeared for the Mets in 56 games and recorded a batting line of.247/.371/.389 with six home runs and 19 RBIs.

J. D. Davis, along with pitchers Carson Seymour, Nick Zwack, and Thomas Szapucki, were sent to the San Francisco Giants on August 2, 2022, as part of a transaction that netted the team first baseman/outfielder Darin Ruf. While playing with the Giants, he had at-bats. In 137 at-bats, he had a batting line of 263/.361/.496 and drove in 20 runs while also hitting 8 home runs.
