Shannon Sharpe claimed that Aaron Judge is the clear-cut favorite to win the AL MVP, instead of Angels 2-way star Shohei Ohtani.
Aaron Judge, a superstar slugger for the New York Yankees, is currently performing a feat that hasn’t been seen in Major League Baseball in nearly two decades. Judge joined the ranks of Barry Bonds, Roger Maris, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, and Babe Ruth when he hit his 60th home run, putting him in the same company as those five players.
At the end of this season, Aaron Judge’s home run total will almost certainly be written into the record books, and he may even set a new record. With 15 games left to play in the regular season, the outfielder already has 60 home runs, falling just one short of matching Roger Maris’ all-time record for home runs in the American League.
Outside of his historic home run chase, Judge is on the verge of making more history than he already has. The incredible Triple Crown is within reach for the star player for the Yankees, as he currently leads the American League in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in.
When discussing candidates for the American League Most Valuable Player award, Shohei Ohtani’s name has come up more often than any other. Even though Aaron Judge has had a phenomenal season, Ohtani’s ability to play both baseball and the field keeps him in the conversation. Shannon Sharpe, on the other hand, is of the opinion that Aaron Judge should take home the MVP award rather than Ohtani.
Talking about it Sharpe said, “He’s the MVP, they’re not in first place in the American League East and they’re not even in the Wild Card without his bat because Giancarlo Stanton who’s another power hitter has missed 30-40 games and when he played he’s kept he’s hitting .210.“
Shannon Sharpe was very clear about the MVP race as he highlighted the factor that Shohei Ohtani has been putting numbers on a team that is nowhere near the playoffs. On the other hand, Judge has helped the Yankees to become a title contender this season.
Talking about it, Sharpe said, “Yeah, and you remember Joey Gallo, hell yeah he was batting 200. He playing damn there every day and I’m on my couch I’m at 0-0 so he’s not much better than me. Now he’s going on I think he’s out here with the Dodgers so it just goes to show you these numbers…”
He continued, “I know that people Shohei Ohtani, he’s doing something, there have been a lot of guys that put up impressive numbers on losing teams they’re 19 games out of the wild card they’re 33 games out of first place…”
The New York Yankees for the most part of the season were the best team in baseball, and Aaron Judge was the leading force behind that team. Their form has dipped over the past month, but they still are one of the favorites to win the World Series this year.
It is very likely that Judge will be crowned the AL MVP and is expected to win the triple crown as well. He would love to perform in the playoffs and help his team to a world series title that would cap off an excellent season for him.
