All you need to know about the extent of the injury which occurred to New York Mets CF Brandon Nimmo in spring training.
The New York Mets have released encouraging updates regarding center fielder Brandon Nimmo a day after the injury to Nimmo’s right ankle that he sustained against the Miami Marlins. Nimmo reported having discomfort in his right knee when he woke up. On Saturday morning, he went in for an MRI, and the results showed that he suffers from a mild sprain in his knee and ankle. His status is now categorized as “week to week,” and it is unknown whether he will be able to play on Opening Day.
On Friday, Danny Mendick hit a ball that seemed to be a double-play ball with the bases loaded, nobody out, and the Mets already leading by what turned out to be the final score of 6-1. Nimmo damaged his right leg when sliding into second base with his spike hooked in the dirt, which caused him to fall awkwardly. On the other hand, Jacob Stallings, the catcher for the Marlins, was called for the catcher’s interference.
Nimmo lay still on the ground for a few minutes, appearing to be in a great deal of pain; however, he got up and walked off the field shortly after, albeit with a limp. About Jose Quintana, he had bone graft surgery on Friday night to treat a stress fracture in his rib. As a result, he will not be able to return to the Major Leagues until at least the month of July. The fact that the left-hander had a benign lesion on his rib ended up being the key motivating reason in his choice to have surgery rather than go for a more conservative treatment approach.
Brandon Nimmo is not the only Mets player who suffered injury
Edwin D.az, the closer for the New York Mets, sustained an injury to his right knee while celebrating a win at the World Baseball Classic. He was then diagnosed with a torn patellar tendon and is expected to miss the all of the 2018 baseball season due to the severity of the injury.
Billy Eppler, the general manager of the Mets, stated that Diaz is expected to undergo surgery on Thursday. Eppler indicated, without going into specific numbers, that the normal amount of time needed for recovery after an event of this sort is roughly eight months.
With Puerto Rico’s victory over the Dominican Republic by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday evening, the latter team was eliminated from further participation in the World Baseball Classic. At the bottom of the ninth inning, D.az, who would be 29 the following week, put an end to the inning by retiring the side without allowing a run to be scored. When right-hander D’az and his teammates were jumping in the infield, the right-hander suddenly collapsed and clutched for his right leg. His teammates rushed to help him. D’az sustained an injury. He was transported off the field in a wheelchair by the members of the medical staff.
Following Dáz’s incredible campaign in 2022, the Mets came to the conclusion that he deserved to be rewarded with the most lucrative contract that had ever been offered to a closer. They offered him a five-year agreement with a total value of $102 million. Insurance coverage is provided for all player contracts by the World Boxing Council (WBC), and this coverage continues for as long as the player is unable to compete because of an injury received during the tournament.
The previous year, Dáz concluded the season with a record of 3-1, an earned run average of 1.31, 32 saves out of 35 attempts, and 118 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched. He also had a record of 32 saves out of 35 opportunities. He was chosen to participate in the All-Star game for the second time, and he came in ninth place in the voting for the Cy Young Trophy.
