All you need to know about the dominating performance of C.J. Cron on the opening day against the San Diego Padres.
C.J. Cron and the Colorado Rockies were able to completely dominate the San Diego Padres, which left everyone speechless. On the first day of the season, the Padres’ competitors in the division provided them with a wake-up call, despite the fact that they are believed to be among the favorites to win the championship.
In a historic starring role, C.J. Cron hit two home runs, went 4-for-5 at the plate, piled up 11 total bases, and was responsible for driving in five runs. The Rockies defeated the Padres by a score of 7-2 thanks in large part to the efforts of Charlie Blackmon, German Marquez, and Elehuris Montero.
The high-spending Padres are believed to be among the teams that could win the World Series, and the energized audience of 45,103 people shouted enthusiastically for their team until the Rockies scored six unanswered runs to put a stop to the game. After Cron and Montero hit back-to-back home runs off of Domino Tapia in the seventh inning, the crowd’s shouts quickly turned to jeers.
It was only the third occasion in the Rockies’ 31-year history that they won consecutive games on opening day, and it was the first time that they did so against a club other than the Diamondbacks. The Rockies took a 4-2 lead as Cron hit a three-run home run against Nabil Crismatt in the fifth inning. Before that, San Diego held a 2-1 advantage.
