Francisco Lindor was recently asked about the idea of having Shohei Ohtani on the New York Mets and he was open to it.
Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani will be a free agent next year. He is expected to get a contract worth over $500 million and many teams have been linked with him. Recently, New York Mets star player Francisco Lindor was asked about his views on Ohtani.
The Mets shortstop was in all praise for the Japanese superstar and he didn’t even shut down the possibility of having Ohtani on the Mets next year. This has certainly excited many Mets fans, as Ohtani is one of a kind.
Speaking about Ohtani, Lindor said, “I mean, that’s what’s different. You know, this is different. human being he is one of the greats for sure. He’s amazing to watch, but I haven’t really had the opportunity to play against them. Much I play against, I believe one series, okay, I guess them never really faced them.”
He added, “Came up, he got hurt and then I got traded to the National League. So you never really had the opportunity to go to play against him. But he’s, he’s amazing. It’s definitely fun to watch. Out of my control. I would love to have on my team for sure.”
The New York Mets have been extremely aggressive in free agency over the years and they will be in the race to get Ohtani. Apart from them, the Dodgers, the Padres, and the Yankees will also monitor Ohtani next year.
Francisco Lindor talks about his relationship with Steve Cohen
After expressing his desire to have Shohei Ohtani on the Mets, Francisco Lindor was asked about his relationship with owner Steve Cohen as well. The Mets shortstop didn’t shy away from spilling the beans and told that he has a pretty good relationship with Cohen.
However, Lindor did mention that he isn’t entitled to make any decisions for the franchise and he leaves them to the higher-ups in general. Lindor said, “I can call him I can talk to him. But at the end of the day, there’s a front office for a reason, you know, I don’t want to be in charge of saying sign this player don’t sign this play. I, I Yeah, want to have an input, but I don’t. I don’t want to make the decision, I’m a shortstop.”
So far the New York Mets shortstop has been off to a decent start this season, and he will hope to get better as we progress further into the season. This season he has averaged .230 with 14 hits, 4 homers, 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored in 17 games.
The Mets fans and Lindor will hope that Steve Cohen will break the bank for Ohtani and get him to New York next year. If Ohtani plays for the Mets, they might become the clear-cut favorites to win the World Series.
