In the first game of the National League Wild Card series, which the San Diego Padres won by a score of 7-1, they absolutely tormented the New York Mets, who were the heavy favorites going into this game. Max Scherzer, a star pitcher for the Mets, had a terrible night because the Padres dominated him from the beginning of the game.
Max Scherzer was only on the mound for 4.2 innings, but the Padres scored seven runs against him. In addition to that, he was responsible for four home runs being hit off of him, and Scherzer’s performance that night was arguably the worst of his postseason career.
In this game, players for the Padres, including Jurickson Profar, Trent Grisham, Josh Bell, and Manny Machado, all hit home runs off of Scherzer. Due to this poor performance in Game 1, the New York Mets are on the verge of being eliminated from the playoffs.
