Is Luke Voit playing in MLB? All details about his new team

Published by

All you need to know about the team that first baseman Luke Voit is currently signed up with in Major League Baseball.

The New York Mets made the news public that they had agreed to terms with first baseman Luke Voit for a deal involving the minor leagues. Tomorrow, he will become active with Triple-A Syracuse and join the team.

Voit, who is 32 years old, has had a terrible start to the season with the Brewers. He has appeared in 22 games with the team, but his batting line reads just.221/.284/.265 and he has struck out in 36.5% of his plate appearances. Because of this, Milwaukee decided to make him available to be signed by any team.

Although Voit’s output has been gradually decreasing over the past few years, the most recent decline was by far the most significant. Despite the reduced number of games in the 2020 season, Voit topped all major league hitters with 22 home runs and finished in first place. His batting line for the year was.277/.338/.610, which gave him a wRC+ of 153. In contrast, he was placed on the injured list many times in 2021 and finished with a batting line of.239/.328/.437 and a wRC+ of 112. While he was out with an injury, the Yankees basically replaced him with Anthony Rizzo, and then they traded Luke Voit to the Padres in preparation for 2022.

After spending just a few short months with the Padres, he was traded to the Nationals as part of the Juan Soto deal. He finished the season with a combined batting line of.226/.308/.402 and a wRC+ of 102. He did not receive a tender and signed with the Brewers this year, although his value fell even lower, as was noted earlier.

Despite the fact that they have been trending downward, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the Mets are willing to give it a chance. For one thing, they just lost their regular first baseman, as Pete Alonso will be sidelined for the next three to four weeks after getting hit by a pitch on his wrist. This injury will prevent him from playing for the team. Over the course of the last four days, they’ve covered the cold corner with a combination of Mark Canha and Mark Vientos.
