Max Scherzer and Yu Darvish will battle it out to give their team a lead in the National League Wild Card series.
The San Diego Padres and the New York Mets will be facing each other in a three-match series in the National League Wild Card round. The winner of this series will be locking horns with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the next round.
Game 1 of the series between the Padres and the Mets will be played on Friday, 7th October as both teams will be locked in to get the lead in the series. Both teams have announced their starting pitchers for Game 1, and Yu Darvish will be taking the mound for the Padres.
Max Scherzer will be starting for the Mets as the NL East side will hope to get back to form after a poor end to the regular season which saw them losing the division title to the Atlanta Braves. The Mets would have got a bye from the first round of the playoffs had they won the NFC East, but now they’ll be facing a tough challenge from an explosive Padres team that can cause them trouble.
Yu Darvish is pretty confident to face the New York Mets. Talking about facing the Mets, a team against who he possesses a record of 5-0, Darvish said, “I’ve been in good form up until now. I’ve been able to pitch with amazing confidence.”
He added, “I always pitch the same, but the difficulties that arise always seem to stem from different reasons. If I can pitch the way I usually do, I’ll be OK“. Talking about Max Scherzer, Darvish said, “He’s a pitcher who’s made his mark on history. I’m honored to face him.” It will be interesting to see which pitcher will come out on top 1 in Game 1 between the Mets and the Padres.
