Home » MLB » Reports: Fernando Tatis Jr. is ruled out for more weeks as his wrist continues to show slow healing

Fernando Tatis Jr. hasn’t played a single game in this season for the San Diego Padres, and his return is postponed further.

The San Diego Padres have had a great start to their season so far. They currently have a record of 39-24 and are on par with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. This certainly has been a great achievement by them considering their best player hasn’t played a single game for them yet.

Fernando Tatis Jr. had a motorcycle accident during the offseason, and he suffered a wrist injury. Since then he has been recovering from it, but his timetable of return has continuously got postponed. He was due to return in June, but now it seems unlikely that he will make a return before the latter part of July.

AJ Peller, the General Manager of the San Diego Padres spoke to the media about Tatis’s situation. He described his wrist as “continues to show healing,” but it wasn’t enough for the doctors to “give a full green light.”

Peller further said, “The full go, start swinging the bat, playing in rehab games, that’s going to be more of a week-to-week decision here going forward.”

AJ Peller further spoke about what is the team’s plan for Tatis Jr. this season. He said, “We’ve said this from the beginning, this is all about the long term and a long relationship with Fernando and his career.”

Preller added, “We’re going to be very cautious. … I think we’ll continue to get good news and continue to progress as we go into the next couple of weeks. He’s made a lot of progress.”

The Padres haven’t missed Tatis Jr. much this season. This is because Manny Machado has stepped up big time in the absence of his fellow countryman. Machado is the leading candidate to win the NL MVP. There is a very high possibility that he will be crowned as the MVP if the Padres continue their good form.
