Star pitcher of the San Diego Padres Joe Musgrove has signed a new 5-year extension with the team, and will stay at least till 2027.
The San Diego Padres are making pretty good moves in the market ahead of the trade deadline. They have signed their star starting pitcher Joe Musgrove on a 5-year-deal which is very lucrative.
According to Jon Heyman: Joe Musgrove’s $100M, 5-year deal with Padres is done. He stays in San Diego!
Musgrove is from San Diego and he will get a chance to stay in his hometown while playing for the team that he grew up supporting.
Joe Musgrove has been pretty special throughout the season, and he will play a crucial role for them come the postseason. The Padres have also added All-Star reliever Josh Hader from the Milwaukee Brewers via trade.
They gave up left-handed closer Taylor Rogers, lefty pitching prospect Robert Gasser, outfielder Esteury Ruiz, and right-hander Dinelson Lamet. This was a great move for the Padres because they needed someone to close things up and Hader will be a nice fit for them.
Here are some of the best reactions to the Padres extending Joe Musgrove till 2027:
After extending Musgrove, and bringing in Hader, the Padres are still heavily pursuing star player Juan Soto. The Padres still have all their top prospects that they might include in their offer for Soto.
They face heavy competition from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Whichever team gets him will get a future hall of fame, and will make them a contender to win the world series.
If the Padres are able to land Soto, then the trio of Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Juan Soto will be lethal. They are currently the favorites to land him ahead of the trade deadline.
