Max Scherzer was hit for four home runs and conceded seven runs in the loss against the San Diego Padres.
The San Diego Padres absolutely tormented the New York Mets in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card series as they won by a score of 7-1. Mets star ace Max Scherzer had a terrible night as the Padres dominated him from the start.
The Padres scored seven runs on Max Scherzer who pitched just 4.2 innings. He also got hit for four home runs, and it was arguably the worst performance by Scherzer in his playoff career.
Jurickson Profar, Trent Grisham, Josh Bell, and Manny Machado were the Padres players who hit home runs off Scherzer in this game, which has put the New York Mets on the brink of elimination from the playoffs.
Talking about the performance against the Padres, Max Scherzer said, “Baseball can take you to the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. This is one of the lowest of lows.”
It is expected that Jacob DeGrom will be given the duties in Game 2 following this brutal loss in Game 1 for the Mets. On the other hand, Blake Snell will be pitching for the Padres, who would be looking to close out the series and progress to the next round to face the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers.
