The Los Angeles Dodgers, despite having the best record in the MLB are dealing with serious pitching issues.
On Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers won their 106th game, tying a franchise record, and clinching home-field advantage throughout the National League Championship Series. However, they will have major pitching concerns for the postseason ahead.
Walker Buehler and Blake Treinen won’t be available for them. Since Craig Kimbrel was moved to the bullpen for the weekend, they will be without a closer. Dustin May, who was placed on the injured list the previous night with an unspecified back problem, may not be available, and even if Tony Gonsolin returns, he won’t be able to handle the workload of a starting pitcher.
The Dodgers are still in it for a World Series title, but they appear to disappoint in the playoffs as they did before. Taking into account their recent success in the regular season and complete collapse in the postseason, it is reasonable to anticipate the worst.
Talking about the pitching issues, Dave Roberts said, “This will be the last I’ll talk about this, but if you get to Game 5 of the NLDS, that’s where all hands on deck, but before that, you still have many, many viable options before that point. Julio [Urias] and Clayton [Kershaw] are two guys that are top-end guys, and we’re counting on them.”
